CLASS 1 - COOKERY 

 

SHREWSBURY BISCUITS

 

Five biscuits to be presented on a small tea plate and covered with cling film.  

 

Ingredients

• 4ozs butter

• 5ozs caster sugar

• 2 egg yolks

• 8ozs plain flour

• Finely grated rind of a lemon

Method

• Set oven to 350F/180c/gas mark 4

• Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and fluffy then beat in the egg yolks

• Add the flour and the lemon rind and mix, forming a fairly firm dough

• Turn out on to a lightly floured surface knead lightly for 1 minute, then roll out to about 1/8 inch thick. 

• Using a fluted 2.5inch cutter, cut into rounds and place on a lightly greased baking sheet

• Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and firm to the touch

CLASS 3 FLORAL ART & DESIGN

 

THEME OF “ROMANCE”

 

 A floral exhibit of fresh flowers of your own choice using up to 5 STEMS ONLY, foliage and accessories permitted.

 To be displayed in a 60cms X 60cms table space viewed from the front. Height not to exceed 90cms.

 An exhibit may contain drapes, bases, accessories, containers and more than one placement

 The use of artificial plant material is not allowed

 

Maximum marks for this class: 20

 Interpretation 3

 Colour harmony 3

 Design, balance, proportion, space, form, texture 6

 Suitability of plant material 3

 Suitability of other components 3

 Presentation and distinction 2

 

 

 

CLASS 5 CRAFT

 

THEME OF “MUSIC”

 

EITHER

A Book Cover or a Book Marker 

 

 1 item linked to the theme of MUSIC

 Maximum size 25cms x 25cms

 Book Cover to be displayed on a suitably sized book in order of arrival at hall

 Book Marker to be displayed on a plain covered book in order or arrival at hall

            SHOW HINTS AND TIPS

 All entry forms MUST be put on Presidents table at the April meeting on 01.04.14

 Competition open to Frankwell WI members only

 Exhibits must be members own work

 Only one exhibit per class allowed

AT THE SHOW

 Exhibits must be brought to the hall between 6.30pm – 7.00pm

 Late entries will NOT be accepted

 On arrival collect your exhibitor’s card from steward.  Stewards will indicate where you exhibit your entry.  Place card UNDER exhibit

 Allow plenty of time to stage your entry

 Exhibits must be staged by 7.15pm

 Ask a Steward if you need help

 Judging at 7.30pm prompt

 Exhibits to be judged in accordance with WI criteria ‘On With the Show’

 The judges decision will be final

 The judges will be pleased to give feedback and tips for your next show after the prize giving

 Members, at the end of show, must remove all their own exhibits.

The WI handbook ‘ON WITH THE SHOW’ has been written for exhibitors, judges and show stewards.  It is an invaluable guide, whatever your involvement in show work.  It is available to view on the WI Moodle or a hard copy is available from the your WI secretary.
