2012 meetings and events

Visiting members of other Wi's and prospective members are assured of a warm welcome to our monthly meetings.  New members and visitors are requested to arrive at the meeting before 7.15pm to sign in.  Our meeters and greeters will introduce you to Frankwell WI members and you will have an opportunity to ask questions and to browse through our past events photo gallery.  Don't worry if you're on your own - there's always someone here to make you feel welcome!

There is a simple format to our meetings - we start at 7.30pm prompt with Frankwell WI and County news and events, next there may be a speaker or discussion, or as in the May meeting, our annual show of work.  (The Have a go show)!  Members take part in a competition during the meeting, where they display an item brought with them - one which is usually linked with the speakers topic.  The competition is judged by members placing one silver coin next to the one item of their choice (just like a vote), and the money is donated to a charity.  It's all a bit of fun.

As is the tradition with the WI, tea or coffee and of course some tempting delicious cake is on offer!

Note to members: If you are on the tea rota for a meeting, please be at the hall by 7pm.  More info is available from our 'kitchen queen' Pippa.

If you have any questions about our meetings or just want a chat about Frankwell Little Boro' WI, please don't hesitate to contact us, by telephone, or by using the contact form on our site.

Monday 4 June Street Party in Quarry park

Jubilee Street Party in the Quarry, Shrewsbury.  Members, family, friends, all welcome but MUST book a place at £1 each.  Entry is by ticket only, sorry you cannot 'turn up' and pay at the gate. Over 600 people have booked tickets so far!!!!!  The Shrewsbury Lions club will provice tables, tablecloths, chairs, bunting, a 'Frankwell WI' streets sign, a b-b-q area (bring your own), a tea tent, a licensed bar, catering - burgers etc.

Lots of childrens entertainment and games.  We hope to arrange a boules competition for all on our street who have booked a place.  Please let Carol know if you'd like to take part.  We have also arranged a Jubilee Royal quiz for our street and those will be on the tables.

The streets will be laid out by the Hercules statue. Arrive between 10am- 11am.  Don't forget Porthill Bridge is closed, but the ferry will be operating - we hope! Look on the website link - all your questions are answered. http://www.lionsjubileestreetparty.co.uk  Lots of suggestions how to make your party sucessful.

Shrewsbury Lions www.shrewsburylions.com are organising the event and we will 'rent a street' . Bring you own celebration picnic/tea and a plate of something savory or sweet  to share with others on our street, 'Frankwell Little Boro'- as all good street parties have done in the past.   Break out the tupperware and cool boxes, don't forget plates, cutlery, cups/tumblers (no glass please). Bring additional bunting to decorate our street (also poles or similar to fix the bunting onto are needed)  and anything else to make it fun.

The theme for Frankwell WI street is 1950's dress (optional) so experiment and surprise us. Hats, party, fancy, jubilee etc.  Go overboard on the outfit and decorations!  We want to have fun!

Plan how you will get your ‘Street’ to the Quarry. You have no tables or chairs to carry but you are unlikely to be able to park close to you street. There is no on site parking.  A wheel barrow, sack barrow, golf cart, shopping trolley – anything on wheels will help you move all that party paraphernalia from home to your ‘Street’ in the Quarry.

Toilets are located by the childrens play area and near the gates by St Chads at the top of the park.

Don't forget to bring clothing for all weathers!

Contact WI Organiser Carol Wolfe to register for your place by Sunday 27 May at the latest. Don't miss out on this fantastic event!
