Monthly Coffee Morning

The restaurant at The Theatre Severn is our monthly venue for a chance to meet members in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy a coffee and croissant and catch up with friends, old and new.

11.00am - midday, second Tuesday of each month.  See you there!

Monthly craft sessions

Craft sessions will resume asap. 

Don't forget your entry into the Shrewsbury Flower Show WI arts and crafts 2012.  A schedule will be available in the New Year.

Should members enter crafts, preserves, floral art etc. into a WI show, there are specifications which have to be ahered to.  The specifications required can be found in the WI handbook titled 'On with the show'.  Please see a member of the crafts group committee who has the Frankwell copy.

Monthly Book Club - County office

Shropshire WI have a book club held at the County Office, Claremont Bank on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7.30pm.  £1.50 for WI members, £2 for non WI members

Collect the following month's book at the book club meeting - return it at the meeting when it is discussed.

 

Walking group

Members are encouraged to arrange and lead a walk.  It can be anywhere in Shropshire!

Please speak to a committee member to discuss your ideas.  Alternatively, use the contact form on the site.

Lead by artist Sarah Evans, the group will continue with the Presidents tablecloth.

All members welcome.  Feel free to bring along your current craft project e.g. knitting/sewing.

15th February 2011 - Floral art with Audra

Arrange your own floral art with advice by Audra.  Please bring: Secateurs/heavy duty scissors, green oasis (soakable), container - long or round with a lip of at least 1-2cms or bigger to retain water, foliage all shapes and sizes, large bloom flowers, long stem flowers, small twigs.

Not into floral art?  Bring your knitting and have a natter.  Can't knit?  Bring the right knitting needles and yarn (advice always available from good craft shops) and we'll show you how to cast on, knit simple stiches, and you'll leave with enough information for you to knit a scarf!

All members and prospective members welcome.  £2 to include a cuppa.

Wednesday February 23 - Snowdrop Walk

A walk around Loughton Park and see the carpets of snowdrops.

Meet at The Windmill Public House on A488 Welshpool Road, just past Rowton Castle, at 11am for coffee.  Optional lunchtime snacks available. 

Visitors and four legged friends on leads welcome.

Tuesday 15th March 2011 - Crafts morning - Silk Painting

Join the group for a crafts morning with WI member and local artist, Sarah Evans - silk painting to finish the Presidents table cloth. 

Have a look at the beginning of the table cloth project, shown on our picture gallery. 

Venue: Darwin Hall, 10 - 12am, cost £2 to include a cuppa.  Prospective members welcome.

5th April 2011 - Victorian Sisters

Speaker: Mrs Ina Taylor - local author of 'Diary of an Edwardian Lady'

Competition 1 : An item of Victoriana

Additional competition 2:  A spring flower arrangement - no larger than 8"x8"x8".  The winner chosen by the members will represent Frankwell at the group meeting.

Tuesday 19 April 2011 - Crafts session - Crochet demonstrations by Rosanna and Marian

WI member Rosanna is an expert when it comes to fine table linen crochet work.  Come along and see her demonstrate simple to complicated crochet stiches and admire her lovely table cloths.

Marian Hoskin makes beautiful clothes and bags with her fabulous crochet work.

Want to learn to crochet?  Rosanna and Marian will help you.  Please bring some yarn or crochet cotton with you.

Wednesday 27 April 2011 - Group meeting

Frankwell are host to the annual group meeting.  The venue is the Bradbury Hall, Trinity Church, Meole Village at 7.30pm.

3rd May 2011 - 'Have a go show!'

Discussion of resolutions.

Plus the second 'Have a go show'- 3 classes ; Cookery - 'a crunchie lemon cake', Photography - an historical subject, Floral art & design - a flower arrangement.  Schedules available from Christine Greaves (use contact form on web site).  Shedules now available on the web.  Entries to Christine before the meeting.  All exhibits to specifications from the WI handbook 'On with the show'.

Our aim is to encourage members to exhibit, whatever your level of expertise, and to give everyone the experience of exhibiting at a show.

Thursday 12 May 2011 - Walk around Attingham Park

Sally Semour is leading this walk at Attingham Park, a National Trust property at Atcham, Shrewsbury.  A small entry fee into the grounds is required if you are not a National Trust member.

Meet at 11am in the car park to walk the grounds surrounding the mansion house, finishing with an optional light lunch in the tea rooms.  This walk will be suitable for all abilities.

Tuesday 17 May 2011 - Pasta making demonstration

Rosanna will pass on her knowledge on how to make fresh pasta!  Event in Rosanna's kitchen - see your membership sheets for address. 

This is a members only event and is limited to 8 - so it's the first 8 names on the list!  Rosanna will be at the May meeting and will collect names. 

Another session may be arranged later in the year as this event has proven popular.

7th June 2011 - Woman Walking

Speaker: Julia Baron will talk about her trip to Peru and her trek to Machu Picchu on the Inca trail

Wednesday 8 June 2011 - Walking group

Marian will lead a walk of about one and a half hours, starting from her home in Berwick Road, Shrewsbury.  Please note some of the walk will be uphill - but the view will be worth it! Suggest you bring a drink. 

Meet 10.30am for coffee.

Tuesday 20 June 2011 - Coffee, gardens and allotments!

Join Christine at her house  at 10am - 12 midday approx.  An opportunity to visit her allotment in Meole Village (about 10mins walk from home).  Refreshments provided.

Have you a question on composting?  Help may be on hand as Christine is a 'Master Composter'!

Thursday 21 July 2011 - Walk around the Quarry park

President, Joyce John leads this stroll around the Quarry Park, Shrewsbury.  As Joyce suggests this a walk that will suit all abilities.

Meet 11am at the Swimming centre cafe in the park, a gentle stroll around the park and Dingle.  Walk will finish at Joyce's house for coffee and cake.

Members welcome.  Sorry no dogs.

12 & 13 August 2011 - Frankwell WI exhibit at the Shrewsbury Flower Show

Members are invited to exhibit at the show located in the Quarry Park, Shrewsbury.

All exhibits are shown to WI specifications listed in the handbook 'On with the show'.  Please contact Christine who has the Frankwell copy for further information.  The WI competition schedule is also shown on our website page.

Say hello to some of our members who are volunteer Stewards in the WI tent!

Frankwell are exhibiting in 3 classses.  Class 3: an individual entry titled 'Jam without Jerusalem' - a jar of jam,  Class 7: an individual entry of one photograph with the theme 'Women at work' and Class 8: 'Elizabeth Rules' - a picture created with used postage stamps . Class 3 & 7 to be judged by WI and Class 8 by the public over the shows 2 days. 

WI show exhibits update: Frankwell unfortunately were not winners.  However the standard of all exhibits were extremely high, and will inspire us to be involved next year.  Well done to those who exhibited. 

 

Thursday 18 August 2011 - River trip at Ironbridge

Group event.  Evening cruise on the River Severn, Ironbridge.  7pm.  Cost £11.50 to include finger buffet at local pub.  Make your own way there.  Meet Wharfage Car Park adjacent to the tourist information office.

Tuesday October 11 visit to Castlefields WI

Frankwell members to visit recently formed Castlefields for their October monthly meeting.  They will be having a 'Zumba' evening and members and Frankwell can join in the dancing and excercise routines.

Meet 7.45pm for 8pm start at the Community Hall, New Park Road, Shrewsbury.  Leaving the town centre, the hall is on the right hand side of the road 200yds after the Dulux shop, next to the Telegraph pub.

Castlefield would like to know numbers, - please let a member of the committee know if you are interested.

Lakeland Plastics in Mardol Shrewsbury invite WI members to a discounted shopping event.  6-8pm

Thursday 10 November - walking group

Haughmond Hill (shown on photo) on the Shrewsbury to Newport Road B5062 is the venue for this walk.  SY4 4PW for those with a sat-nav. Meet at 10am at the car park.  Pinetops cafe is available for hot drinks and snacks.  www.forestry.gov.uk for further details of the site.  Toilets on site.

The plan is to decide which route to walk from the marked out paths, dependant on those who come along.  One of the routes is suitable for wheelchairs.

Thursday - Saturday, 24 - 26 November 2011. An evening play with The Abbey Foregate Drama Group

STOP PRESS!!!!! TICKETS FOR THURSDAY NIGHT ALMOST SOLD OUT. (14.11.11) TICKETS FOR FRIDAY & SATURDAY AVAILABLE. 

The local and talented Abbey Foregate Drama Group presents 'Our Town' written by Thornton Wilder.  This classic play is to be performed in the United Reform Church, Abbey Foregate, Shewsbury, and will be joined by the URC choir in some of the music.

Tickets will be available on the evening of the performance at the church, cost £6/£8

This event is open to everyone

6th December 2011 - Buffet, quiz and entertainment

Back by popular demand, The Bouquet Sisters (aka Marilyn, Carol and Lesley) with their musical renditon of 'Sisters', Sarah on the Sax, Joyce Grenfell (aka Marian) who tells the tale of the 'Terrible worrier' and of course your MC, Milandra (aka Christine) to entertain all with a comedy routine. 

Bring your singing voices - we will be making music and singing carols

A buffet will be provided.  Eat, drink and be merry!

This a members only event.  Cost £1 in advance from Audra - to be used in exchange for wine/juice/raffle
